Five years after the US government closed the site Megaupload by accusing him of piracy, the entrepreneur Kim Dotcom announces on Twitter its plan to relaunch its data storage site.
The flamboyant German tech entrepreneur plans to relaunch file sharing via his Megaupload site in January 2017.
Founded in 2005, the site boasted of having more than 150 million registered users and no less than 50 million visitors per day. Which gave it the place of 13e most visited site in the world. In January 2012, the data storage site was closed by the US government, accusing it of hacking.
However, Dotcom announced his plan in a series of tweets, where he stated that former Megaupload users would get their accounts reinstated with a privilege bonus for those who had purchased a subscription.
The closure of Megaupload, a web empire:
The American authorities had told Kim Dotcom, that its Megaupload site caused film studios and record labels more than 500 million losses, to the benefit of its creator who raised $ 175 million in one year, by encouraging users to subscribe to the storage services of the site. Offering unlimited storage space and fast download, as well as unlimited.
Resident in New Zealand, the hacking charges that floated on the website have led to a raid by the US government on the contractor’s huge property. Also accused of money laundering, the United States made an extradition request which was successful in 2013.
But Dotcom denies all accusations of internet piracy. It is simply arguing that it offers an online file storage service and that it should not be held responsible if the content stored by internet users is illegal.
Fortunately after a long trial, Dotcom is released, but with much of his fortune seized by the government.
Kim Dotcom the giant relaunches his legend:
He announced on his twitter that he is currently preparing a comeback for his Megaupload service. It should see the light of day in January 2017.
In the meantime, for a few years he has developed the site mega.co.nz which can also store files. Moreover, there are several directories that allow you to find links to films, series or music.
Known for a very luxurious lifestyle, Kim Dotcom lost a colossal part of his fortune as a result of his trial. The FBI estimates that in 2010 he personally earned about $ 115,000 per day.
He said recently: “I would be the first Tech billionaire who was indicted, who lost everything and who will recreate a technology company that will weigh in the billions”.
And we want it!
