If you discovered Caïd while browsing the streaming platform’s catalog, then you probably don’t know the history of the series. Originally, two young French people self-produced a feature film and stood out in 2017 at the Cognac Polar Festival, by winning the grand prize for best feature film.
Netflix therefore decided to afford the rights to their film in order to be able to make an adaptation. In the end, it was not a feature film that was produced but a series with a very unusual format. Maybe it was to be able stage a season 2 ?
Let’s start with the good news, Caïd season 2 on Netflix could very well see the light of day soon since it has been classified in the “series” category. The mini-series have very rarely the right to a continuation but fortunately for us this is not the case with French fiction.
The bad news is that the streaming giant still has not ordered season 2 of Caid, this can be explained by several reasons. First, it is the first time that a series of this kind has been put online on the platform. The format is almost new and the way the story is filmed may not appeal to two hundred million subscribers. In order not to take any risks, Netflix probably preferred wait before telling us that there will be new episodes.
Then, as for each of its original creations, the platform prefers to wait at least four weeks to estimate the success of the fiction in the 190 countries where it has been published.

This is excellent news in favor of a possible renewal. Globally, fiction is the twentieth most popular series. In Belgium it ranks eighth. All these elements indicate thata season 2 of Caïd is more than likely. Unfortunately we don’t think the story will follow the plot of Part One.
If Netflix orders Caïd season 2, the episodes will likely have the same format but a whole new storyline will be staged. As soon as the news is officially announced, this article will be updated.
Is the release date of season 2 of Caïd already planned by Netflix?
Caïd’s suite could totally be written by screenwriters but it is also conceivable that Netflix offers the two directors (Nicolas Lopez and Ange Basterga) to produce a new series in the same genre. So season 2 of Caïd would be interested in another city or a completely different theme but linked to delinquency. It is therefore possible that Mohamed Boudouh and Abdramane Diakité are not part of the sequel.
We currently assume that if the streaming platform renews the French series, then the release date of season 2 of Caïd will be in the spring of 2022. It might take a little over a year to stage new episodes. Hoping that the shooting will not be affected by the health crisis.
Angel Basterga could write Caïd season 2 very quickly since he only needed about thirty days to write the script for the feature film (from which the series is inspired) which was filmed in record time (four days!). The most time-consuming task remains the editing which took more than seven months at the time …
